Outpatient Treatment Programs

Flexible, structured addiction treatment that fits into your life. Our outpatient programs deliver the same evidence-based clinical care in a format that allows you to maintain work, school, and family commitments while building a strong foundation for recovery.

Overview

Understanding Outpatient Treatment

Outpatient treatment provides structured therapeutic programming during scheduled hours while allowing you to return home each day. It is an effective level of care for individuals who have completed residential treatment, finished detox with a stable home environment, or whose clinical needs are best met with flexible scheduling.

At MDI Helpline in Centerville, Ohio, our outpatient programs are not a lesser form of care. They are distinct treatment tracks designed for specific clinical situations and stages of recovery. Each program is staffed by licensed therapists, certified addiction counselors, and clinical supervisors who bring the same level of expertise and dedication found in our residential program.

Whether you are stepping down from inpatient care or entering treatment for the first time, our outpatient team will build a personalized plan that addresses your substance use, mental health, relapse prevention needs, and life goals.

Program Levels

Three Levels of Outpatient Care

Our center offers three distinct outpatient tracks, each calibrated to a different intensity of support. Your clinical team will recommend the most appropriate level based on your assessment.

Program Level Duration Schedule Best For
Partial Hospitalization (PHP) 2–4 Weeks 5–6 hours/day, 5 days/week Individuals stepping down from residential who need intensive daily structure
Intensive Outpatient (IOP) 8–12 Weeks 3–4 hours/day, 3–5 days/week Those balancing recovery with work, school, or caregiving responsibilities
Standard Outpatient Ongoing 1–2 hours/session, 1–2 days/week People in stable recovery seeking continued therapeutic support and accountability

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Our PHP program provides near-residential intensity in a day-treatment format. You attend five to six hours of programming daily, including group therapy, individual counseling, psychoeducation, and skills workshops. PHP is the ideal first step after completing residential treatment, providing high-level clinical support while you begin reintegrating into daily life. Sessions typically run five days per week for two to four weeks, though your clinical team may adjust the timeline based on your progress.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

IOP is designed for people who need structured clinical treatment but also need to maintain daily responsibilities such as employment, education, or family care. Sessions meet three to five days per week for three to four hours per session, typically in the morning or evening to accommodate your schedule. Over eight to twelve weeks, IOP focuses on relapse prevention, coping skill development, group process therapy, and continued individual counseling. This is often the next step after PHP or a direct entry point for those with moderate treatment needs.

Standard Outpatient

Our standard outpatient program provides ongoing therapeutic support for individuals in stable recovery. You attend one to two sessions per week, each lasting one to two hours, focusing on relapse prevention reinforcement, life skills application, processing real-world challenges, and maintaining accountability. This level of care can continue for as long as clinically beneficial and serves as a vital bridge between formal treatment and independent recovery.

Your Experience

What to Expect in Outpatient Care

Outpatient treatment at MDI Helpline is clinically rigorous, personally supportive, and designed to fit the rhythm of your daily life.

Evidence-Based Therapy

You will participate in CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and other proven modalities. Group therapy sessions build peer support and shared accountability, while individual sessions address your specific challenges and goals.

Relapse Prevention Planning

A central focus of outpatient care is building and refining your relapse prevention plan. This includes identifying triggers, developing coping strategies, establishing healthy routines, and creating a support network that sustains recovery.

Family Involvement

Family therapy and educational sessions are available at every outpatient level. Repairing and strengthening family relationships is essential to long-term recovery, and our therapists guide these conversations with skill and compassion.

Holistic Wellness

Outpatient clients have access to our yoga studio, meditation garden, fitness center, and art therapy room during scheduled wellness hours. These activities complement clinical treatment and support whole-person healing.

Continuum of Care

Step-Down Care from Residential Treatment

For clients transitioning from our residential program, outpatient care is not a separate experience; it is the next chapter in a continuous recovery narrative.

At MDI Helpline, your clinical team follows you from one level of care to the next. The therapists and counselors who know your story, your strengths, and your challenges continue to guide your treatment as you move from residential to PHP, from PHP to IOP, and from IOP to standard outpatient. This continuity eliminates the disruptive "starting over" experience that can occur when transferring between different treatment providers.

01

Residential to PHP

After completing residential treatment, most clients transition to our PHP program. This maintains intensive daily programming while you begin sleeping at home and practicing recovery skills in the real world.

02

PHP to IOP

As your confidence and stability grow, your clinical team will recommend stepping down to IOP. You will attend fewer hours per week but continue to receive structured therapy, group support, and clinical oversight.

03

IOP to Standard Outpatient

Standard outpatient provides the ongoing support that helps sustain the progress you have made. Weekly sessions keep you connected to your clinical team and your recovery community as you build your new life.

We accept Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, United Healthcare, Humana, Magellan, Tricare, Medicare, and Medicaid for all outpatient services.
